'Rosberg should receive a penalty' - Button
04 October 2009 / Results / PhotosChampionship leader Jenson Button believes that Nico Rosberg should be handed a time penalty in the aftermath of the Japanese Grand Prix due to speeding under yellow flag conditions. | Rosberg is likely to be investigated following Button's claims |
Having started tenth following a 5-place grid drop of his own due to setting a qualifying time under yellow flag conditions, Button believes that Rosberg should be penalised for an almost identical offence during the race.
"Today was about picking up points and that's what I did," Button, who picked up a solitary point, explained to the BBC. "I couldn't get Rosberg as he did his fastest second sector under the Safety Car so I think he'll get a penalty for that…
"In the race my pace was very good and I was happy with that. I got stuck behind people who were stopping much later but we got it working and I'm happy with today's performance; it's difficult overtaking around here but I did the best thing I could - the car worked reasonably well but not as good as the car in front. A point or two today is valuable now. The next two races should suit our car very well."
Further reaction: 'I didn't gain an advantage' - Rosberg
Outcome: No penalty for Rosberg
