Trulli: Vettel untouchable

Trulli: Vettel untouchable

Jarno Trulli showed a solid performance for Toyota in Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix, starting and finishing in second place behind the Red Bull of Vettel who was described by the Italian as 'untouchable'

Italian Trulli drove a strong race at Suzuka, involved heavily in a second place battle with Lewis Hamilton and successfully keeping the British Champion at bay. "At the start the car pulled away very well but Lewis came by and I had to follow him," Toyota driver Trulli explained after clinching the team's second consecutive second place finish. "It was a fantastic race for me to close the gap with Lewis."

Trulli then stated how fuel stops and the lighter car advantage helped his charge at times, an aspect of the race that will be missing next season as refuelling is banned. "It wasn't easy; after the first pit-stop I was chasing him again and got closer," Jarno continued, "then we got Lewis at the last pit-stop and it got easier for me. I managed to pull away in the final laps."

Although some of the younger, less experienced drivers suffered fatigue throughout the weekend - namely Alguersuari, who crashed out at the 130R in Sunday's race - Trulli's car and experience enabled him to capture a good result at the Suzuka circuit. "The car and tyres were all fine," he added. "A great result for us here in Japan - I really wanted to win but Sebastian was untouchable."
