Toro Rosso unfortunately had a torrid time once again in Japan as, for the second time in a week, both cars failed to finish a Grand Prix. Jaime Alguersuari came off worse, though, by suffering a large crash at 130R to bring an end to a rather destructive weekend.
With almost half the field never having previously driven Suzuka in a Formula One car, 2009 new boy Alguersuari crashed heavily at Degner in qualifying before a second large accident of the weekend at the high-speed 130R corner during Sunday's race.

| As if Saturday's crash wasn't bad enough, Alguersuari suffered a second heavy impact on Sunday |
"My accident came on the lap after my second pit stop, when I fitted the soft tyres," the Barcelona driver explained. "At Turn 15, which you take flat, I lost the rear end of the car and crashed into the wall but I'm not sure why; it was inexplicable and I would like to see the data in case there might have been something wrong with the pressure of the rear tyres or a puncture.
"I am really, really sorry for what happened. I was pushing every lap and running consistently, in terms of my lap times being almost always within the same tenth. Hopefully, we can have a better race in Brazil."
