Williams must 'get on' with engine choice

Williams must 'get on' with engine choice

06 October 2009

Sir Frank Williams has stressed the urgency involved in his team's choice of engine supplier ahead of 2010. The Grove outfit is currently being supplied by Toyota although a recent connection with Renault appears to have stalled. The Englishman admits, however, that a final decision must be taken in the very near future.

With the design and construction of a Formula One car varying enormously depending on the engine which will power it, Williams' discussions with regards to returning to Renault power are believed to have been slowed following the race-fixing 'Crashgate' saga.

"We've got to get on with it and make up our minds, it must be imminent," Williams is quoted as saying by Autosport. "It's a technical choice and it requires a thorough vetting and consideration period by Patrick (Head, Executive Director of Engineering) and Sam (Michael, Technical Director) plus some negotiations by Adam (Parr, CEO) once it's decided.

"We have to hurry up because we don't want to get behind on designing our car." Having replied with 'Absolutely' to the possible excitement about Williams-Renault becoming reality again, Frank also talked of Cosworth, which is already set to return next season with Campos, Manor, Lotus and USF1. "Cosworth is an independent company," he said. "The warmth that a manufacturer's engine provides is a useful feeling."
