NASCAR test is curiosity only, says Trulli

An inquisitive Jarno Trulli has vowed to keep all motor racing efforts focussed on Formula One despite an upcoming NASCAR test. The Italian, invited by the Michael Waltrip Racing team, will conduct the November run in Florida alongside Mika Salo but purely out of interest only, he insists.

With word of Trulli's test in the USA having been made public on Wednesday, the Pescara-born driver - who runs his wine company in the Italian town - has confirmed that he will continue racing in Formula One for as long as possible.

"Last year I had the chance to visit a NASCAR race in Michigan, which was a really interesting experience for me," Jarno explained to Reuters. "NASCAR is one of the most significant motorsport series in the world and I was very curious to see the racing first hand.

"At the time I asked the Toyota guys in the U.S. if it would be possible to one day test a car just for fun and, before the Belgian Grand Prix, they offered me the chance to do so later in the year."

Jarno stresses, however, that he has no long-term goals involving the series: "My commitment is 100 percent to Formula One." Trulli's Toyota contract is set to expire at the end of 2009 after first joining the Cologne team for the final two races of 2004.
