'FIA should have punished Piquet' - Coulthard

David Coulthard has spoken out over the highly controversial 'Crashgate' scandal which graced Formula One this season following last year's Renault race-fixing scandal in Singapore. The driver turned television pundit struggles to believe how a driver could crash a car on purpose and believes the man in question should have come off worse.

With the ever-persistent 'Crashgate' seemingly struggling to fade away, Coulthard told The Times of India on Friday that F1 is still feeling the effects of the saga. "I think the FIA should have punished Piquet too," he said of the sport's governing body of the driver who received immunity during the subsequent court hearing in Paris. "He was equally guilty as any other.

"It was really bad - bad for F1 and bad for the fans; the revelations have shaken many, including me…I don't know how anyone can crash an F1 car (on purpose). All through my career I was trying to avoid a crash!"

The Scot, who will drive a Red Bull F1 car across a new sea bridge in Mumbai on Sunday, added that he would be 'surprised' to see Piquet Jr. ever return to F1.
