Alonso hoping for more in Brazil

Alonso hoping for more in Brazil

13 October 2009

As scene of his championship crowning moments of 2005 and 2006, Brazil's Interlagos circuit is naturally one of high emotion for Fernando Alonso. After suffering another chiefly difficult season in 2009, however, the Oviedo man hopes for a strong points finish for Renault this weekend.

Having registered a single podium finish in Singapore this year, Alonso aims to add to the tally as he returns to the track at which he has finished in the top three for the past four seasons.

"Interlagos is a circuit that will always be very special to me because I won both my world titles with Renault there," the Spaniard said. "It's one of the most enjoyable races of the year because the fans are so passionate about Formula One and there is an amazing atmosphere all weekend.

"Although we didn't get the maximum from the race in Japan, the mood in the team is still very positive. We know that the car is quick but we were just unlucky in qualifying, which was a shame as I think I could have scored some points if I had started the race in a better position."

Fernando stressed that any points finishes for himself and team-mate Romain Grosjean will be vital in the battle against Williams and BMW for sixth place in the Constructors' Championship.
