'Talks but no deal' - Barrichello on Williams

14 October 2009

Rubens Barrichello has confirmed that he has been in talks with the Williams team but denies that a contract has been signed for the 2010 season. The Brazilian, who is due to contest his home Grand Prix in São Paulo this weekend, is confident that he will remain in the sport next year.

Having made his last team switch when moving from Ferrari to Honda ahead of 2006, Barrichello has been widely tipped for a move to Williams in what could be a possible swap with Germany's Nico Rosberg.

"It's true there are talks with Williams and with Brawn, there's no doubt," Barrichello, the oldest driver in the field, is quoted as saying by Reuters, "but I haven't signed any papers; I read about everything that's been said and made it quite clear that this is a very special moment for me in Formula One.

"Today I feel very honoured that there are teams trying, that there are teams I'm talking to and that my situation is a lot better than for some time."

The 37-year-old further expressed his happiness at being able to make his own decisions with regards to his future. "I'm at a very privileged stage of my career, in being able to choose the car in which I'll compete," he continued. "I very much want a competitive car for next season."
