Alonso hoping for consistency

16 October 2009 / Results / Photos

Fernando Alonso hopes to continue leading the way this weekend after finishing Friday free practice on top at Interlagos. With a rain shower looking to have allowed Toro Rosso and Sébastien Buemi to top a practice session for the first time, the Spaniard was the only man to lower the bar following a rain shower.

With rain having arrived approximately half an hour before the end of Friday afternoon's session, Alonso's Renault managed to steal the top spot just minutes before the end with a best lap time of 1:12.315 on the circuit at which both of his world titles have been picked up.

"Today wasn't easy because the weather conditions were changing all the time," the Asturias pilot explained after the session. "That made it difficult to concentrate on the setup of the car but in the end we did some good runs with positive results and hopefully tomorrow we can continue this good work.

"I think that the weather will be the key to this weekend so we need to react quickly to any changes and be flexible. We have a very interesting weekend ahead of us and hopefully we can maximise the work that we do tomorrow morning so that we are in good shape for qualifying."
