Ironically, Brazil 2004 was the last time Rubens Barrichello qualified on pole position for a Formula One race. The Brazilian is delighted but remains realistic at Interlagos as, with himself at the front and his championship rivals 14th and 16th, he must finish at least fourth to keep his title hopes alive on Sunday.
With team-mate Jenson Button needing only a podium finishing position to guarantee the title this weekend, the Englishman starts way down on the seventh row as Barrichello stormed to pole position in the - eventually - drying conditions.

"It's a special time for me," a beaming Barrichello, whose family watched on at Interlagos, commented. "It's obviously a great time when you go out and have a balance; it doesn't matter if it's wet or dry, just off you go…there were plenty of strategies and you never know what's going to happen, it was so variable.
"I'm very, very happy with this situation; it's great to see that all of the people stayed to see it because they went through a heavy period of rain - I was expecting them to leave but I'm happy they stayed to see it." Rubens then joked that, with 17 years of Formula One experience behind him, he has never been able to enjoy two comfort breaks in the middle of a qualifying session.
How does 'Rubinho' rate his championship chances, with a 14-point gap to Button? "I will race as hard as I can to win the race and then, when it is finished, I will open the radio channel and see where Jenson and Sebastian (Vettel) finished - I am looking forward to tomorrow!"
