Hamilton praying for dry race

17 October 2009 / Results / Photos

Lewis Hamilton has hailed Brazil's qualifying session as one of the worst of his Formula One career. The World Champion, at the track on which he clinched his title last year, was eliminated at the earlier possible moment on Saturday and starts Sunday's race from a lowly 18th on the grid.

Having suffered from the atrocious driving conditions which tested the field at Interlagos, the McLaren driver joined team-mate Heikki Kovalainen in being eliminated from Q1. "It was probably one of the worst qualifying sessions I can remember," the Englishman said.

"I don't know why I had no grip but I couldn't go flat out down the straight - the aquaplaning was ridiculous." Asked how the starting position affects his race chances, Lewis replied: "It sucks! I think I'm going to have to pray that the sun comes out and gives us a dry race tomorrow."
