Stunning Sutil third in wet qualifying
17 October 2009 / Results / PhotosAdrian Sutil may have been one of the last cars to leave the pit lane as Q3 began at Interlagos although the strategy paid off handsomely for the Force India team as the German planted his Mercedes-powered car in third place on the grid in Brazil.
As team-mate Tonio Liuzzi aquaplaned off the circuit for a heavy accident at Turn 1, Sutil managed to keep his car on the island to head the second row behind Rubens Barrichello and Mark Webber.
"We had some problems on Friday in the dry and it didn't look great," Adrian admitted in the post-qualifying press conference. "Because of that, I was really hoping for rain and we got a lot of it!
"In Q2, with the extreme wets, we went extremely well and in Q3 I managed one good lap in the end, which was enough for P3, so I'm very happy; I had to wait so long and had to keep my focus up so it makes me so happy, after waiting for such a long time, to be so competitive in this field."
