First-lap crash cost me points, says Alonso

18 October 2009 / Results / Photos

Fernando Alonso has enjoyed some big days in Brazil although the former double World Champion was out of luck in 2009 after being caught up in the first-lap carnage at Ferradura corner. As former team-mate Jarno Trulli and Adrian Sutil came together, the Spaniard was innocently removed from the race.

With Trulli having spun into Sutil at high speed and the German's car subsequently being pitched across the infield, Alonso could do nothing to avoid a collision as the Force India tobogganed back onto the race track.

"It was a very busy first lap and unfortunately I got caught up in it," Alonso commented, with just one more race remaining with Renault before his switch to Ferrari in 2010.

"I made a good start and we had a promising strategy for the race, but unfortunately when Sutil and Trulli collided I was hit by the Force India as well. It's a real shame because this is a special track for me; I always enjoy racing here and I think we could have scored points today."
