Messy afternoon for Kovalainen

Messy afternoon for Kovalainen

Heikki Kovalainen found himself in the wars on more occasion than one during the Brazilian Grand Prix. Having spun at the first corner and being nearly collected by Giancarlo Fisichella, the Finn then pulled away at his pit-stop with the rig still connected.

"While the results don't show it, I had a good race out there today," said the Finn, who set the fifth fastest lap time of the day. "I lost about six or seven laps' worth of fuel with the incident with the fuel hose and, without that problem, my first stint would have been longer and would have allowed me to get ahead of some of the cars ahead of me.

"Still, I'm very pleased that our team has now moved ahead of Ferrari in the Constructors' World Championship and I really feel I could have added to that total without my problems in the pit lane today."

It has since been announced by race stewards that Heikki has received a 25-second penalty for the pit lane saga, dropping him from 9th to 12th.
