'Win, but in Abu Dhabi please' - Ecclestone to Button

18 October 2009

Bernie Ecclestone would love to see Jenson Button become the second consecutive British World Champion this year but admits that he would prefer seeing the championship go down to the wire for the fourth consecutive year.

With Fernando Alonso having been the last man to seal a Drivers' crown before a season's last race - by doing so for Renault with two races still to in 2005 - F1 commercial rights holder Ecclestone insists that last-race championship showdowns are always the best way to finish a season.

"Button will be a good Champion," Ecclestone told Le Parisien newspaper. "Having said that, I would like him to do me a big favour and wait for the last race of the year in Abu Dhabi before winning it - it is always more fun when the championship is decided at the final race."

Bernie will discover whether his wish is granted or not with Sundays Brazilian Grand Prix in São Paulo, in which Button starts from a modest grid position of 14th.
