Having joined Renault as test driver in 2002 before being promoted to a race role and winning the 2003 Hungarian Grand Prix, the Spaniard went on to clinch double world titles for the Enstone outfit in 2005 and 2006. A year off in 2007 has since resulted in the Oviedo man running with the squad for a further two seasons before departing in the direction of Ferrari.
"I would love to finish the season and my Renault career with a great result," he said, having clinched 17 of his 21 race victories with the French diamond marque. "It will be an emotional race because I have enjoyed so many special memories with this team and I am leaving behind a lot of friends.
"Renault is one of the great teams in Formula One and I look forward to fighting with them on the track in the years ahead."
