Coulthard joins Race of Champions

27 October 2009

David Coulthard is looking forward to teaming up with the most recent Dakar Rally winner as the Scot is confirmed as taking part in this year's Race of Champions. For the event which takes place in Chinese capital Beijing for the first time, the 2008 runner-up will be hoping to go one better this time around.

Having narrowly lost out to multiple World Rally Champion Sébastien Loeb last year, Coulthard will drive in this year's event as a BBC television pundit as opposed to a recently retired Formula One driver. "The Race of Champions is always a bit of fun to end the season but, after coming so close to winning it last year, this time I'll only really be happy if I go away with the big prize," the Twynholm man admitted.

"Having the chance to race the newly crowned F1 World Champion will be additional motivation to dust off my helmet and focus on trying to win overall." Coulthard's ROC confirmation comes at the same time as that of team-mate Giniel de Villiers - the multiple South African touring car Champion, winner of this year's Dakar Rally, is 'delighted' to be competing at the Bird's Nest Olympic Stadium.

"David has been competing in The Race of Champions for several years and he's a great character," Fredrik Johnsson, of event organisers IMP, added of Coulthard. "He's the kind of person who's not only quick on the track but is also a big hit with the fans - and that's one of the things that makes the event great."
