Sidelined Glock: Head prevailed over heart

Now confirmed as not competing in the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Timo Glock will be watching a race as opposed to driving in one for the third F1 weekend in a row. The German will be attending the final meeting of the season at Yas Marina, though, possibly to discuss plans for next year.

With no contracts yet signed for 2010, Glock's absence from the starting grids of the final trio of races could mean that his last race for Toyota has already been completed, with a strong second place in the Singapore night race. "It does hurt already," said Timo on his website of the failure to compete this weekend, "especially as Abu Dhabi is a beautiful new track on which I would obviously like to run."

Having explained that doctors had initially informed him that a recovery could take up to eight weeks, Glock accepts the outcome. "I had a lot of fluid collecting in the leg," he explained. "Thus I could not train properly - the muscle needs to be built back up."

Although the 27-year-old - who is once again being subbed for by test driver Kamui Kobayashi - would be capable of racing, safety comes first. "The doctors told me that there is still some risk there," Timo continued. "I was not an easy decision but, ultimately, the head prevailed over the heart - there are just moments in which a driver must be guided to an understanding."
