Another unexpected race for Kobayashi

28 October 2009

After deputising for Timo Glock in the Brazilian Grand Prix two weekends ago, Japan's Kamui Kobayashi will enjoy another chance in Abu Dhabi this weekend as his German team-mate is still unable to compete. Having expected to be on the sidelines himself, the test driver is savouring the opportunity.

With a strong race to ninth position having raised a few eyebrows at Interlagos - not least those of new Champion Jenson Button - Kobayashi becomes one of twenty men to compete in the first ever Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. "I am really looking forward to my second Grand Prix and I want to make the most of this unexpected chance," the 23-year-old said.

"I didn't know the track in Brazil, and that was a little bit of a disadvantage because almost all the other drivers had some experience of it, but that's not the case in Abu Dhabi - this is a new track for everyone, so that should help me." Kamui added that he is also now more familiar with Bridgestone's 2009 tyre specifications as well as the pit-stop procedure.

"I am sure the car will be strong and I will do everything I can to try to score my first points in Formula One," he continued. "Of course, it will be extremely difficult because the field is very strong and this is just my second Grand Prix, but I will give my all."
