'We want to finish in style' - Button

28 October 2009

2009 World Champion Jenson Button is aiming for race victory in Abu Dhabi this weekend in order to bring the curtain down on his championship-winning season in the best way possible. The pressure is now off the Brawn driver, who will finish the campaign no less than four points ahead of his closest rival.

Having clinched the crown in Brazil just under a fortnight ago, Button can enjoy the state-of-the-art Yas Marina circuit with the knowledge that even retirement from the race cannot hamper the title chances of either himself or the Brackley-based team.

"It's a fantastic feeling to be going into the final race having achieved my ambition of winning the Drivers' Championship and with the team having wrapped up the Constructors' Championship in Brazil," Frome's Jenson said. "We want to finish the season in style with a great result but we can be a little more relaxed in our approach to the weekend!

"I had a short break in the Gulf region after the Bahrain Grand Prix and went to have a look at the Yas Marina Circuit; even back then, when the construction work was still underway, the facilities looked outstanding and the organisers have done a great job in creating a spectacular venue."

In F1's last new race, Button finished 9th for Honda in Singapore last year but is hoping for far more in the Arabian Gulf this weekend. "It's always fun to try a new race track, particularly one which looks as unique as Yas Marina with the unusual pit lane exit and the day/night race," the Champion added. "I'm sure Abu Dhabi is going to host an exciting weekend and a great finale to the 2009 Formula One season."
