Spinal Injuries Association turns 35 with Williams

Spinal Injuries Association turns 35 with Williams

29 October 2009

The Spinal Injuries Association (SIA), the group which assisted Sir Frank Williams after his road car accident in 1986, has celebrated its 35th birthday with the Grove-based team. The logos of the group will be displayed on the helmets of Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima in the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this weekend.

With team boss Sir Frank Williams having been paralysed in his road car crash 23 years ago, the SIA 35th anniversary celebrations will include, as well as the partnership with the team, a ball and auction for 300 VIP guests at East Wintergarden, located in London's Canary Wharf. On top of this, a team will be entered by Williams to run this year's London Marathon plus a 12-hour Ski-a-Thon.

"The SIA is dedicated to improving the lives of those that are spinal cord-injured who often find themselves in difficult circumstances," Sir Frank explained. "Like many charities, the SIA is operated by a group of selfless people who deserve as much support in their efforts as possible so we are delighted to be able to lend our support in this way."

"This is a fantastic gesture from Frank and his team, a truly unique opportunity to have the chance to see the SIA logo travel at over 200mph!" added Paul Smith, SIA's Executive Director. "As always, we wish the AT&T Williams team every success and good fortune in the race."
