Kubica disappointed after engine failure

Robert Kubica was left on the sidelines as his final race weekend with BMW started off in disappointing fashion in Abu Dhabi. The pole, who will be departing for Renault at the end of the season, suffered an engine failure in Friday's second practice to see chances of improving his car setup literally go up in smoke.

With a puff of smoke having come from the BMW at Turn 6, more smoke followed by a lick of flame signalled the premature end to Kubica's day at the hairpin.

"The track is quite interesting although there are not a lot of high-speed corners and most are quite short," Robert said at Yas Marina. "The final sector of the track reminds me of Singapore.

"We were just starting to work on the setup and the tyre evaluation in the second free practice session when I had an engine failure. With the track conditions are improving with each lap, this is a big loss and I lost nearly one hour of valuable track time."
