Williams reverts to Cosworth

30 October 2009

Sir Frank Williams has confirmed that his team will be switching back to Cosworth engines for next season. Having first run the British powerplants from 1977 until 1983 and then for a single season in 2006, the Grove squad has since made use of Toyota units for three years.

Having already confirmed its split with Japan's Toyota, Williams' move back to Cosworth confirms that it will once again be partnered with the company which with it won its first Drivers' Championship with Alan Jones back in 1980.

"Our performance needs to improve," team boss Williams told Gulf News. "We staggered in the second half of the 2009 season. It's fundamental that the car is not fast enough but, from what I've seen, we should have been a little more competitive.

"We've finished our contract with Toyota and we've moved on to a British engine manufacturer, Cosworth, with whom we have won many World Championships in the past."
