Hamilton: Shame to end with problems
01 November 2009 / Results / PhotosOutgoing Champion Lewis Hamilton was disappointed to have ended the season with retirement following a race prior to which he was generally regarded as favourite to win. The Englishman, who led from pole position in Abu Dhabi, retired following his first pit-stop due to brake problems.
Having led comfortably thanks to his power-boosting KERS device, McLaren's Hamilton began to suffer a number of lock-ups and vibrations before being called into the pits for a second and final time.
"There was a problem with the brakes and I couldn't stop the car," the Englishman said after his second retirement of the season, with the first being the Belgian Grand Prix just over two months ago. "I was locking and locking and locking and it was harder than ever to drive the car.
"It's a shame, as the car felt so good for these last couple of days, but we haven't had many brake problems this year so there you go."
