The pairing of Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher triumphed magnificently once again on Tuesday to confirm their third straight win in the Race of Champions' Nations Cup, a new record. The German duo clinched the honours in the final by knocking out Britain's Jenson Button and Andy Priaulx.

With Guernsey's Priaulx, World Touring Car Champion of 2005-2007, and Frome's Button, new Formula One Champion, having lost out to the might of the Vettel-Schumacher pairing, the German double act will now go for more success in Wednesday's main Race of Champions event at Beijing's Bird's Nest Olympic Stadium.

With past F1 Champion Schumacher having beaten reigning Champion Button in the same car for the first heat, Vettel could not say the same of Priaulx in the second; Schumacher saved Germany, however, by registering success in the third and final round.

"We had a nice fight - I just come back to this event to use whatever there is left of a talent," Schumacher said. "With this track, it's just a case of watching where the other guy is to know how hard to push. Of course, the racing is the highlight but the other stuff that goes on around that is part of the relaxed atmosphere of the Race of Champions which we all enjoy."

"To win three times in a row is something that no-one has done before, so it's a real reason to be proud," added Red Bull's Vettel after also winning the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix only two days before.
