Sponsors Etihad Airways and Aldar Properties have been instructed to pay $4.7m (£2.8m) in damages to the Force India team due to terminating contracts early in order to switch to Ferrari, ArabianBusiness.com reports.
With the matter having gone before the London High Court and Judge Gray, the swapping from Force India (formerly Spyker F1) to Ferrari for the 2008 season has now been judged a breach of contract with Kingfisher, the airline owned by India's Vijay Mallya, co-owner of Force India.
With the deals between the two companies and Spyker having begun in 2007 and not due to expire until the end of this season, each year's payment to the team equated to $5m (£3m), $6m (£3.6m) and $9m (£5.5m) respectively.
