Buemi retained by Toro Rosso for 2010

09 November 2009

Sébastien Buemi will be remaining at the Toro Rosso team for next season. The 2009 rookie scored a points finish on four occasions in his debut Formula One campaign, having been the only new driver on the grid at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix in March.

By finishing in the top eight at both the first and last races of the year as well as two more in between, impressive Buemi finished the season as highest placed of any of Toro Rosso's three drivers, with six points placing him in sixteenth position overall; the 21-year-old, who celebrated his birthday on Halloween, explained to Swiss television programme 'Sport Dimanche' (Sport Sunday) that the performances have been enough to keep his seat.

"I have been in contact with other teams, thanks to my good results at the end of season," he admitted, referred to consecutive points finishes in Brazil and Abu Dhabi.

"Toyota could have been a possibility, because it had not yet hired any drivers, but we now know the disappointment of the team and the negotiations have therefore stopped. That was not the only one but I was also discussing with Red Bull - I finally signed with Toro Rosso for 2010."

The Aigle man added that he once again expects to be joined by Spain's Jaime Alguersuari, who made his debut in Hungary in order to replace the ousted Sébastien Bourdais.
