Domenicali: Ferrari wary of 2009 contenders

10 November 2009

Stefano Domenicali does not believe that the much-improved performances of the Brawn GP and Red Bull Racing teams were mere flukes this season. With Ferrari hoping to rejoin battle at the front in 2010, the Italian is confident in saying that this year's front-runners will still be in contention for race wins.

With Brawn - formerly Honda - and Red Bull having jumped up to first and second in the Constructors' Championship from respective ninth and seventh places in 2008, Domenicali now hopes that Ferrari can recover from its worst season since 1993.

"I respect them a lot," the Team Principal said of his rivals. "Brawn had such a huge advantage at the beginning that, without saying, they will have swapped development to their new car a long time ago; I know Ross (Brawn, Team Principal) very well and, for sure, he is doing that. With regards to Red Bull, I think they made a great package - a really great package - and they will be there next year too."

With Ferrari having registered only a single race victory this year, as it also did four seasons ago, Stefano hopes to jump back up into contention. "In 2005 we suffered like hell, like this year," he continued. "We had the lone win at Indianapolis and that season was very difficult; we have these periods and we are used to getting out of them with the Ferrari spirit and resources."
