Pedro de la Rosa's chances of securing a drive at the Campos Meta team appear to be in doubt due to financial issues. The Spanish team has long since been interested in its countryman, test driver for McLaren, although a lack of funding could act as the Barcelona pilot's downfall.

With Bruno Senna being the first man signed by Campos ahead of the Madrid outfit's F1 debut next year, de la Rosa was the first driver to be linked with the squad by sport insiders and fans alike, due to his nationality link as well as experience.

"I would like to sign Pedro de la Rosa but he is Spanish and Spanish sponsors are in a bad way," team owner and former F1 driver Adrián Campos told Spain's La Marca newspaper at the presentation of Senna in Murcia on Tuesday.

"There are other options - from Russia and Venezuela - but that all depends on the sponsors." The countries in question link to Pastor Maldonado and Vitaly Petrov, both of whom drove for the team in GP2 this year.

"Everyone asks me about de la Rosa but it all depends on the backing we can get," Team President José Ramon Carabante told AS. "The situation is complicated in Spain and there are also Maldonado and the Russian guy."
