Despite selling more tickets this year, organisers of the Belgian Grand Prix have again announced that the event made losses in 2009. With the increase in sales having come in the shape of cheaper tickets as opposed to those for the more extensive sectors of the circuit, losses of €4m (£3.6m) in 2008 have now increased to just under €5m (£4.5m).

"President Davignon should have come up with concrete proposals to achieve a sustainable financial balance," Jean-Claude Marcourt, Minister of Economy, is quoted as saying by Dutch newspaper De Standaard.
A grand total of 50,779 visitors were welcomed this season, up by 1,000 on last year, although the rising attendances were seemingly not enough to prevent an even greater loss.
