The weather in the Eifel turned the seventh season round of the DTM at the Nürburgring into a turbulent tyre lottery. Outstanding man of the day was the eldest driver in the field, Bernd Schneider. After the first of three sessions had been completed, the second heat had to be interrupted following an accident by Mike Rockenfeller. Because of the continuing heavy rain, the clerk of the course decided not to continue qualifying for safety reasons. In post-race scrutineering of Paffett's car, the scrutineers found out that the AMG Mercedes C-Class didn't meet the required weight of 1045 kg, but was three kilograms underweight. This was an infringement of article 34.1.3 of the sporting regulations of the 2008 DTM.
