Webber fastest in Jerez

Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber was the fastest man during testing at Jerez on Thursday. The Australian completed his fastest lap in 1.19.175 being just ahead of Renault driver Nelson Piquet.

Both Webber and Piquet were testing 2009-spec slick tyres when they set their fastest laps. Piquet's day, however was not trouble free as he went off at one point, clipping a wall and causing a red flag.

Kimi Raikkonen ended up third fastest for Ferrari running this season's tyres while Tonio Liuzzi finished fourth testing Force india's new gearbox with slick 2009 tyres. McLaren tester Pedro de la Rosa was fifth and caused a red flag early on when he went off track as he tested new aerodynamics.

Timo Glock was back in action for the first time since his German Grand Prix crash. He caused a red flag when his Toyota stopped on track, as did Rubens Barrichello when his Honda ground to a halt.

Testing at Jerez concludes tomorrow.
